The Cartridge cases for both 120mm and 125mm are manufactured using the most advanced Felting Technology, which has a global acceptance. Moving ahead with the time, SMPP has also developed advanced cartridge case using resin based felting technology. This new development has doubled the tensile strength of the cartridges while maintaining the same density and weight.

  • 120MM
SMPP manufactures 2 types of 120mm combustible cartridge cases, for the MBT Arjun of Indian Army.

  • FSAPDS
It is the primary anti-tank ammunition for MBT Arjun and it is –

Made up of 3 component cartridge case.
Capable to defeat all modern targets at a range of ≥ 5000 meters.
Accurate to 0.25 mil standard deviation.

HESH
This secondary ammunition for MBT Arjun, High Explosive Squash Head (HESH), is effective against a wide array of soft targets, tanks , fortifications etc, and it is –

Made up of 2 component Cartridge case.
Capable to defeat rolled homogenous armor plate detaching a scab of about 9kg mass at a velocity of 100-120 m/s.
Accurate to 0.25 mil standard deviation.

  • 125MM FSAPDS
A soft core tank ammunition fired from T-72 and T-90 tanks, Fin Stabilized Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot (FSAPDS), is the most lethal ammunition(with a very high kinetic energy), capable of destroying all known tank armor up to direct shooting range and defeating the heavy triple target.
  • An individual round consists of two cartridges, main powder charge, called the Rear Cartridge and the secondary charge, known as Front cartridge. Both the front and rear cartridges are manufactured by SMPP.
    Key Features:

      Primary Cartridge Case- 4 components
      Secondary Cartridge Case- 3 components
      Exceptionally lightweight
      Fully Combustible Concept

Banking on its technical competence, SMPP has also developed and introduce another version of this cartridge, MK II, which has been successfully test-fired by the Indian Army.
